74% of our 2011 are Enrolled in
College
Our
Inaugural Class, the Class of 2011 continues to produce impressive
results. We received a report from the
National Student Clearinghouse, which confirms what students enrolled in
college any time after the first year after high school, and 74% of our first graduating class are
in college as of December 8, 2011. The
actual breakdowns are as follows:
Total in Class 82
Total Enrolled 61 (74%)
Total in Public Colleges 30
Total in Private Colleges 31
Total in 4-year Colleges 57 (69%)
Total in 2-year Colleges 4 (5%)
Total In-State 45
Total
Out-of-State 16
By
comparison, according to statistics for the Class of 2010 published in the
Philadelphia Public School Notebook, only eight Special Admission District High
School performed better than our 2011 result (Bodine, CAPA, Carver, Central,
GAMP, Girls High, Lankenau, and Masterman).
The Class of 2011 has left a tremendous legacy
for our school. The Class of 2012
certainly has their work cut out for them.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Dimidium facti qui coepit habet. - Horace
(He who has begun is half done.)
In anticipation of the approval of our middle school, we will begin registering qstudents for our sixth grade class. Because the charter law allows us to give preference to siblings, we are pleased to announce that we will take applications for 6th graders for September 2012 who are brothers of current Boys' Latin students. While we do not have final approval from the School District of Philadelphia, we know that we have met the requirements to allow us to expand to middle school grades as part of our charter renewal. We expect to receive an official approval from the School District of Philadelphia sometime in January 2012. Please contact Ms. Ortiz to sign up for an Parent Information Session. |

Dear Boys' Latin Family:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Noah Tennant as principal of our Upper (High) School. Dr. Tennant first came to my attention in his role as mentor for one of our teachers in the prestigious Educational Leadership Program for Aspiring Principals at the University of Pennsylvania. It was clear to me when I met him that he could provide the type of leadership from which our school would benefit. One of our Board members actually went through the doctoral program at Penn with Dr. Tennant. She quickly confirmed my initial impression. She felt that he was a star in that program.
Noah Tennant received his undergraduate degree in English Education and Linguistics from the University of Delaware. He has a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from the Teachers College at Columbia University. He began his teaching career at the Westfield (NJ) School District. There he rose to the positions of Assistant Principal and then Director of Guidance. For the past five years he has been the Principal at Haddonfield (NJ) Middle School where he established an exemplary record of achievement.
At this critical juncture in our school's short history, it was essential that we identify the right leader who possessed the proper mix of skill and experience. I believe we selected the right candidate in Dr. Tennant. I know that you will feel the same when you meet him. Please join me in welcoming this dedicated educator to our school community.
Sincerely,
David P. Hardy Chief Executive Officer
