SCIENCE SPEAKER SERIES: Dr. Howard Stone, professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering at Princeton University, will visit Boys' Latin on Thursday, January 26, from 9:00-10:00 pm for our next Science Speaker Series of 2012. Dr. Stone is a leader in the study of fluid mechanics. He has made contributions to a wide range of problems involving effects of surface tension, buoyancy, fluid rotation, and surfactants. Dr. Stone did his undergraduate studies at University of California at Davis and earned his Ph.D. at Caltech before joining the faculty at Harvard and then Princeton.
SCIENCE EXCURSION: On Wednesday, January 25, Boys’ Latin students will visit the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. A scientist affiliated with the Penn Genome Frontiers Institute at CHOP will have students visit her lab. Students will have the chance to learn more about human genetics, with a particular emphasis on congenital diseases.
TEACHER OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS: Does your son have a teacher who has had a powerful impact on him? Do you know a teacher who has gone above and beyond in supporting your son’s growth at Boys’ Latin? If so, the Extended Family Network wants to know about it. The Extended Family Network would like to honor a Teacher of the Year for the 2011-2012 school year. Parents or students are asked to complete the attached nomination form to nominate a teacher who has had a positive influence. ARCADE NIGHT: Tomorrow night’s Arcade Night has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Students should listen for future announcements about the rescheduling of this event.
FAFSA WORK SESSION: Parents and guardians of seniors are invited to the Boys’ Latin Technology Lab (room 105) on Monday, January 23 at 7:00 pm. During this working meeting, parents will access the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application form and complete the FAFSA while our Director of College Advising, Mrs. Bonner, oversees progress, answers questions, and provides guidance.
MUSIC SHOWCASE AND REVIEW: Don’t miss the 2012 Boys’ Latin Music Showcase and Review on Friday, January 27 at 7:00 pm. The Music Showcase and Review will feature vocal music, instrumental music, and stepping. Tickets can be purchased from the Boys’ Latin Music Department for $5 in advance. The cost is $7 at the door. Don’t miss the talented students of Boys’ Latin!
BOYS’ LATIN TRACK TEAM: The Boys’ Latin Track Team had another amazing meet at Lehigh University. Shane Gilling came in 11th out over 30 competitors in the 60 meter dash, and Oumar Diawara came in second in his heat. Congratulations, Team! |
