School Profile
Founded in 2007 and situated on a 3-acre campus in West Philadelphia, Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia Charter School is a college preparatory high school serving young men from all areas of Philadelphia. The school enrolls 466 students in grades 9-12. The Class of 2012 includes 79 students. Ninety-six percent of the members of Boys’ Latin’s first graduating class, the Class of 2011, were admitted to college. Of those, 93 percent were admitted to four-year programs.
With its small student body and 13:1 student/teacher ratio, Boys’ Latin offers an intimate learning community in which each young man is encouraged to be “the architect of his own fortune” by pursuing excellence. In 2009, Philadelphia Magazine named Boys’ Latin’s afterschool program “Best in Region.” Students at Boys’ Latin attend an extended day of classes (8:00am-5:00pm) and Saturday school is held twice monthly. Each student in grades 10-12 receives a laptop computer for his use, and incoming freshmen attend a 4-week academic prep program in the summer before they matriculate.
