Boys’ Latin is a public school operating under a charter granted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the School District of Philadelphia.  Admission to the school is open to all eligible students – boys who reside within the City of Philadelphia who are rising to either sixth or ninth grade exclusively.  Boys’ Latin does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality, creed, ethnicity, mental and physical disability, proficiency in English or prior academic achievement when admitting students.  Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia is a school of choice, and it is important for both parents and applicants to know the level of academia is required.  All applying families are encouraged to do due diligence to learn about our rigorous curriculum, which is exclusively college preparatory with a Latin language requirement, and our extended school day.  We are serious about student achievement and expect that our students and families will embrace those expectations.


Selection of students for admission to Boys’ Latin is done by lottery, which will be held on February 13, 2019.  Students selected in this lottery are accepted to Boys’ Latin.  Those not selected are placed on a waiting list.  Following the lottery and acceptance, parents must complete registration by completing or providing the following: Proof of Child’s Age; Proof of Residency; Proof of Immunizations; a Home Language Survey; and a Parent Registration Statement.  They will have a minimum of 15 business days to do so.  The documentation must then be submitted to Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia via mail or in person at the school office (5501 Cedar Avenue).  Again, families will have a minimum of 15 business days to do so, but must meet all deadlines to reserve their acceptance.  Once the registration is completed, families are invited to attend a New Parent Orientation session on one of two dates.


Following the enrollment period, families from the waiting list are contacted and offered a spot. Should there be space available after the lottery and after the waitlist has been exhausted, students will be admitted on a first come, first served basis.  The school will host Information Sessions as a means of outreach to these families so they can learn about Boys’ Latin.   Please call the Enrollment Office at 215.387.5149 if you have any questions about the Enrollment Process.


Application Submission

Applications for Boys’ Latin may be done electronically through the SchoolMint system or with a paper application.  Those applying through SchoolMint should access the site at  beginning September 28, 2018.  Once on the SchoolMInt site, users should follow all directions to open an account. Paper applications may be submitted by mail or in person beginning September 28, 2018.  Paper applications should be submitted to the main office of the high school:  5501 Cedar Avenue, Philadelphia, PA  19143.  Applications may be obtained in person at the aforementioned address, on our website (, or via email as requested.  Boys’ Latin also accepts the Philadelphia Charter School Standard Application.


Student Intake Form Submission

All applicants should make note of the public lottery date.  Those who are enrolled per the lottery outcome will be notified (via mail) to come to the school to receive a list of the required registration forms and materials.  The documentation list and forms will also be available at the public lottery for those families in attendance.  Parents may come in to pick up the items or request the forms be mailed to their desired address.  Those families who have applied through SchoolMint will be able to access all forms via the electronic system. These forms include all student information necessary to complete the registration requirements of Pennsylvania Charter Law (PA Act 22 of 1997).

·         If you applied via paper copy, pick-up Student Intake forms or request forms be mailed.  The submission deadline should be considered if requesting the forms by mail.

·         If you applied electronically via SchoolMint, required student intake forms will be accessed and completed electronically. 


Only completed intake forms will be accepted.
